Is a parental assessment of mental illness a cover/cop-out for bad parenting?

When a parent claims their child has mental illness do you think that they are attempting to free themselves from any responsibility for bad parenting?
Bad parenting, abuse and neglect can cause mental illness and personality disorders right……
When a child is upset at how they have been treated, voice their concern to the parent and they respond by saying or referencing the possibility of mental illness; are they attempting to place the blame on the child? What kind of a parent does this?

You’ve asked a highly complex question. Sometimes it is the environment the child has been raised in, sometimes it’s the child’s personality in conjunction with their environment. Sometimes a child will develop an illness even in the best of environments. In the end, it’s really an individual case by case diagnosis.

A BAD parent does that. My daughter isn’t mentally ill, but mildly retarded. I have been very gentle when this suject was broached, and never once would I bring it up casually for any actions of hers. That’s cruel and wrong. It’s hard enough dealing with the general public if you’re not the smart, pretty/handsome, perfect kid, nevermind your parents!

You will probably find a picture of the woman who raised me and her daughter.Right now I have a neice in a treatment center because of these 2 woman. No one believes the child of how controlling these 2 woman are and how they feed off each other. I don’t know how to help because I don’t have the Code( in treatment centers you need a code # to comunicate with a minor) and you can’t do anything with out the code. But I am not without hope and neither should you be.
ok? Look up Border-line personality disorder.Thats what kind of parent does that.
